For many, Christmas calls to mind an array of warm, cozy images, from snowy
landscapes, Rudolph and Frosty, and twinkling lights to traditional Christmas hymns, candles, and festive meals served on a family table. These images of comfort and joy are an integral part of Christmas lore in the American psyche. In our busy and bustling daily lives, the warm nostalgia of Christmas can sometimes be elusive. Sometimes, a getaway is just what you need to feel like you are home for the holidays.
Midwest winter destinations offer not only entertainment and relaxation, but also
unforgettable holiday experiences. Here you will find light displays, outdoor and indoor
attractions, and festivities that will spark your imagination, inspire the holiday spirit, and leave you with lasting memories. Whether you are in the mood for a Midwest holiday road trip or an extended stay, the area offers something for everyone.
A tour of Midwest seasonal attractions would not be complete without a visit to the live
music capital of the world, Branson, MO, where you will encounter a quaint, hometown holiday atmosphere, complete with cozy cabins, fireside charm, holiday concerts, festivals, and Christmas markets. One of the most popular Christmas attractions in Branson is the Silver Dollar City theme park’s annual “An Old Time Christmas” festival. The event features all the sights and sounds of an 1880s village, and it is one of the most festive events for families in the Midwest during the holiday season. Silver Dollar City has one of the most spectacular holiday lights displays in the Midwest, featuring over 6.5 million lights. This year, the festival will feature Rudolph’s Holly Jolly Christmas light parade and the Frisco Sing-Along Steam train that will take passengers on a tour of the City lights, ending in the countryside with a retelling of the Biblical Christmas story. A visit to Branson, MO is sure to get you in the holiday spirit with its signature music and magic.
From Branson, hop on I-44 and journey toward St. Louis, where you will encounter an
